MT. ELBRUS, RUSSIA
Top of Europe
At 5,642 meters (18,510 feet), Mount Elbrus is Europe’s highest peak. Located in the Caucasus Mountains of Russia, its classic southern route is a non-technical glacier trek rather than a vertical climb—no technical mountaineering skills are required.
Success relies primarily on solid physical endurance, cold-weather resilience, and proper acclimatization to combat high altitude. Climbers use crampons and ice axes on wide snow slopes, completing the summit push in one long day from the mountain huts. It serves as an ideal and achievable gateway to high-altitude mountaineering.
